Since Ireland is mostly surrounded by water, sailing events are natural in the country. Vikings are considered as ancestors of the Irish people thus their seafaring nature and interesting history with waters. Nonetheless, sailing events around the county at present no longer involves pillaging. These events are now considered as an increasingly popular hobby and past time. The waters surrounding Emerald Isle offers a wide selection of sailing activities intended to cater to different types of people and their preferences.

Because sailing events has steadily gained the interest of people, fish ports have slowly transformed themselves into recreational “centers”. Using the dinghy to start inshore sailing events is very easy because sailing centers nowadays are specially designed for dinghy use. People need not worry about starting their inshore sailing as most ports provide assistance for such.

In Ireland, sailing events are not only limited by the coastline. Irish inland waterways offer people an exceptional sailing adventure. Because of the growing demand for such and its rising popularity, many clubs and amusement centers have also emerged along the area. Aside from the unique sailing events, inland waterways of Ireland will surely amuse anyone. There are several ideal places to sail these include the river Shannon as well as Loughs of Derg, Ree and Erne. The good thing about sailing inland is that people who are not yet used to activity will get to practice and enjoy a calmer setting. Inland waterways do not have high waves or strong winds which are not ideal for first timers or inexperienced sailors.
There are also sheltered harbors around the area to further cater to sailors and guests who want a much more protected and ideal setting.
