Jet Ski Oil
Ensuring proper lubrication of the engine of a Jet Ski is important for its optimum performance. Jet Ski oil is integral in keeping an engine fully operational, and as such should be changed from time to time. The moving components of an engine are lubricated with the use of greases and oils, and helps in preventing damage caused by friction. The material is specific for each part, depending on the need for lubricating. Greases, which are viscous or semi-solid substances derived from petroleum or crude oil are used for bearings that experience extreme friction and are composed of heavy parts. Oil, on the other hand, is generally used for the whole system that is in constant motion.
Prevent Corrosion
Jet Ski oil is specifically formulated for its engine to prevent corrosion. As the certain parts of the Jet Ski are directly exposed to water such as its impeller, the need for constantly lubricating its components is very important. If lubrication is not employed, there is a great chance that the engine will malfunction, and repairs will be costly and troublesome. Basic engine troubleshooting suggests that if the engine seems to produce disturbing mechanical noise, the engine should be checked for loose connections and improperly lubricated parts. In case the engine has tight bearings, misaligned parts may be the cause of the noise. But if all the parts are well in place and bearings are tight, then the other probable cause is the lack of engine oil.
Engine Knock
The noise brought about by improper lubrication should not be mistaken as the “engine knock”, which is brought about by a different reason. The “engine knock” is caused by combustion of the air and fuel mixture at the wrong timing. The noise produced by the lack of oil, on the other hand, is more like the clashing of metal parts or randomly ticking noises. For the case of the “engine knock”, a different kind of engine oil is mixed with the fuel in the combustion chamber, which has “anti-knock” properties. Jet Ski oil, on the other hand, serves mainly as lubricant for the engine’s moving parts.
For each type or model of Jet Ski, a specific kind of oil is suggested for use. This is because each model varies in the engine used for its propulsion, and lubricating systems for each engine also vary. To know which kind of oil should be used for your Jet Ski, you may refer to its User’s Manual or consult its manufacturer.
