Jet Ski Battery

The battery of a Jet Ski is used for starting the engine and other miscellaneous functions.  In general, a battery stores electrical energy in electrolytes which are chemical compounds that store energy.  This energy is converted to electricity with the use of electrodes and its capacity depends on the chemical reactions of its components.

Types of Batteries

The typical batteries available for Jet Skis are the AGM (Absorbed Glass Mats) type and standard wet-cell type.  In order for the Jet Ski engine to start, current is induced from the battery to the spark plug that ignites the air and fuel mixture in the cylinder of the engine.  To ensure that the Jet Ski will function properly, the battery should be replaced regularly depending on the type of battery and the Jet Ski in use.

There are many manufacturers of batteries for a Jet Ski, and at the same time there are different kinds of batteries available for a Jet Ski.  The AGM type of battery is most commonly preferred over the other types as this battery does not leak and requires minimal maintenance as compared to the wet-cell type.  The AGM type of battery is classified into sealed and dry charge.  The sealed AGM battery for Jet Skis is the most convenient to use as it does not require refill of acid at constant intervals, whereas the dry charge AGM battery needs to be refilled with acid from time to time.  Also, the acid contained in a sealed AGM battery will not spill even when it is turned upside down.  This means that it poses no hazard to the engine as the Jet Ski moves freely while in operation.

Battery Replacement

To replace the battery of a Jet Ski, the model of the unit should be checked first.  This will tell you what kind of engine Jet Ski using. For instance, is the Jet Ski function on a two-stroke or four-stroke engine? The engine helps determine the kind of battery that is used. This specification is often included in manuals that go with the Jet Ski when you purchase it.  However, if you are unsure of what kind of battery to purchase, you can consult the dealer and find what you are looking. Take note that the Jet Ski should be specified in order for the dealer to find the right replacement. In buying a new battery for your Jet Ski, you should keep in mind that the one that lasts longer is the best choice.
