Cruise Ship Food

dining in cruise ships

What they say about gaining weight from a cruise is so true. Cruise ship foods are cooked by no less than trained, even some 5-star chefs, and they are served almost 24/7 so that sticking to your diet needs a lot of conviction when you’re on a cruise. Almost all cruise ship food cost is included in the ticket; however, dining in fine restaurants onboard the ship is usually paid separately. The buffet and the snack bar foods are usually prepaid with the ticket, but feel free to be generous to the waiters.

The best time to dine

Almost all cruise ship serve buffet dinner twice in the evening, and often you can come as you please to any of the buffet dinner schedules. However, depending on your mood for the night and your travel arrangement, one of these dinner schedules maybe the best for you. If you’re travelling with children, then the first dinner schedule should be your best option to give you enough time to tuck the children to bed. And if you’re planning to attend to late night activities on the ship, then eating early is a good idea also. However, if you fancy for a chat with fellow passengers, and maybe even the captain, then going for the second dinner buffet schedule should be your choice.

Don’t think that cruise ship food is confined to all-you-can-eat buffet or snack bars by the pool. If you fancy for a 5 course or even 7 course gourmet meals, most cruise ships today offer high-end restaurants that can rival Gordon Ramsay at the London West Hollywood. Sometimes high-end cruise liners themselves fly in celebrity chefs onboard to delight their cruisers’ palate even for a single night. A fancy cruise ship food experience like this, however, is definitely not covered by your ticket. So prepare your credit card or have some cash handy in case your taste buds will crave for a fancy dinner during your cruise one evening.

Most cruise liners today include the buffet and the deck meals and snacks to the ticket, and if you fancy a fine dining in one of your restaurants, you may have some discounts too. If you’re planning to go on a cruise, ask the agent if the cruise arranged for a one or two formal dinners during the trip. You’re going to save some money by bringing your own suit for the occasion and not buying one from the ship’s boutique. And one or two nights during the entire trip, the chef may arrange a midnight banquet to show his or her culinary creations. You should not miss this opportunity.
