There is lots to choose from when it comes to purchasing  extra accessories for a boat. All these items contribute in making a boating experience more enjoyable and easier in general. Using the right boat accessories can also create increased value of the ship. Some accessories are a necessity, while others are there to make life more comfortable and a boating trip more fun.
Choosing the right accessories for a boat begins with getting the essentials for safety and the ones created for optimizing and maintaining the condition of the ship.

Essential and non-essential boat accessories

What sort of accessories are required depends greatly on the type of boat they are for. A fishing boat for example requires other accessories then a speed boat. The specific needs for a ship should be determined before rushing off to the store and actually purchasing any extras for a boat. It is recommended to create a list of necessities first, before a trip to the store is made.

Essential Boat Accessories

Serious problems could arise when trapped on the water without the proper equipment. In order to make sure that does not happen, here is a summary of essential boat accessories that no ship should be without:
Life jackets, Anchors and lines, Ladders, Mirrors, Paddles, Registration and lettering kits, Safety equipment, Stabilizers, Buoys and Lights.
Each of these are needed for its own purpose, but they all are required and essential, in order to ensure safety during a boating trip. Make sure these items are easy to reach when on water. Should the need arise they should be easily accessible under any circumstances.

Extra Boat Accessories

The list of items than can be obtained for a boat is extensive, and a lot of them are not actually required or essential. However, they do make life easier and generally the boating trip much more enjoyable. Not required, but recommended accessories would be items like:
Swim platforms, Fish finders, Wakeboards, Wetsuits, Radios and speakers, Boat fenders, Boat heaters and Water skies.
Those are just a small selection out of a large assortment of accessories that can be purchased, that are non-essential.

Some accessories might change the look of a boat and with it increase its value., At a later time during a sale, the boat would sell for a much higher price, then it would have  in its original condition. In that regard, even non-essential boat accessories can be very important, perhaps not for safety but certainly for increased value of the ship.

In general every modification on a boat will make it either better, safer or more valuable.
