Are English Channel Ferries Good Option?

13-1-2010

english channel voyage

The extra care for detail and the charm that top English Channel ferries give to travelers are still good reason enough to cross the channel on a voyage. Onboard one of the flagships of P&O North Sea Ferries, Brittany Ferries, Sea France, or Stena Line is a short vacation in the middle of a hectic work schedule. And definitely a short, bumpy and claustrophobic flight in one of many budget airlines cannot beat the site and feel of the rugged scenery of the English coastlines.

English Channel ferries ports of origin

On England’s side of the channel, your short vacation can start from Portsmouth, Plymouth, Poole, Folkestone, Dover, New Haven, or Hull, and your short vacation once you step onboard one of the English Channel liners. And one of the best points about travelling on a voyage across the channel is that you can drive your car through the port and onboard the ship ready to roll out and hit the road on the other side of the channel. You can’t do that if you’re going to travel by air or by train. There’s a ferry that departs from these ports every hour or two so that you don’t have to worry about getting late to your destination.

Onboard popular English Channel ferries

Onboard doesn’t translate to becoming bored because there’s too much things to do inside many English Channel liners. You can hit the casino if you’re feeling lucky, taste gourmet cuisine in restaurants, catch up the latest movie in cinemas, or just enjoy the view outside during summer. The ladies can also catch up with their shopping or their “mani-pedi” while waiting to get to their port of call. And travelling with kids is easy and fun on a voyage because there are plenty of activities for them to do while you catch up with your reading.

Favorite English Channel ferries

The Brittany Ferries were voted Best Cross Channel Ferry in 2001 for having the most modern, fast, and safe fleets to traverse the channel. They have voyages from Plymouth, Poole, and Portsmouth to Santander in Spain, St. Malo in France, Caen, Cherbourg, and Cork in Ireland.

The P&O Ferries operate many luxury liners with complete onboard amenities for a short cruise across the channel. They service routes from Hull to Rotterdam or Zeeburgge, Dover to Calais, and Portsmouth to Bilbao.

And Sea France offer great travel offers for passengers from Dover to Calais and vice versa. Their fleets offer you a taste of France even before you step foot on the French soil.
